Don’t you hate spammers?

Posted in by on the September 24th, 2007

If you were one of the folks who got spammed this weekend through our messaging system, we are incredibly sorry.  Some malicious hacker found a way to spam some our users with a bizarre message, and as a result, we’ve been working hard to patch this hole and any others that could potentially spam our users.

We really, really value you guys.  Without our users, the idea of flippid simply doesn’t work.  We can’t express enough our regret that this happened.

Sorry for any inconvenience that this caused you,
Daniel

Bid early and get great deals!

Posted in About flippid by on the May 23rd, 2007

By now, you’ve probably figured out that there are few things different about a Flippid SellOff than a normal online auction… One of the neater things about a SellOff is that multiple bidders can win – as long as the seller has listed the SellOff with multiple quantities.

This presents a great opportunity for buyers to get items at great prices; but you’ve got to bid early – if you want to get in on the bidding, you’ve got to bid above the last bidder’s maximum bid.

Let me paint a picture for you…

Lets say you’re interested in a rare LP, there are currently no bids on the SellOff, the seller is selling 2 of them, the bidding increments at $1.00, and the bidding starts at $1.00.  You decide that you’ll bid a max of $5.00 on the item and you become one of the winners at a price of $1.00 (There are no competing bids yet, so your bid is kept as low as possible).  The next person who wants to buy the other one has to bid at least $6.00 to get in (your max bid + the bidding increment).  Now the SellOff has 2 winning bids; yours at $1.00 and someone else’s at $6.00.  If someone else wants in, they’ve got to bid at least $7.00 (the other person’s max bid + the bidding increment).

You can see that if you bid early you’ve got a great chance of getting a better price!

Sony KDFE50A10 LCD Rear Projection TV - Product Review

Posted in Product reviews by on the May 4th, 2007

I’ve had a Sony KDFE50A10 for some time now, and I really love it.  It’s reasonably priced, and the picture is phenominal.  I defy you to be able to tell the difference between this LCD rear projection TV and a standard LCD TV… the two look the same (Well maybe some serious LCD-ophiles can tell the difference, but I’m not one of them).

I’ve never had one problem with it, and I run the TV on daily basis for hours and hours.  The bulb is still running like a champ after thousands and thousands of hours.

Check out the Sony KDFE50A10 page and add it to your want list!

Olympus FE-230 - Product Review

FE-230

I recently picked up an Olympus FE-230 for an upcoming trip I’m taking.  I’ve got a 3.2 megapixel Sony Cybershot that I’ve had for a few years, and it did the job, but I was really looking for something more compact.  The FE-230 fits the bill.

The FE-230 is extremely small; smaller even than a deck of cards.  Packed into it’s tiny design is 3x optical zoom and a 2.5 inch LCD screen.  The screen is more impressive than other screens I’ve seen on other digital cameras - bright and loaded with pixels.

This camera is powered by a rechargable lithium ion battery - not something I was thrilled about because I hate having to worry about charging a battery.  I’d much rather just through some lithium AA’s into it and toss them when they’re done, but I had to comprimise my battery feelings in favor of the small size.  If you simply can’t stand the rechargable battery, you can go with the FE-210.  It’s practically the same camera, but takes AA’s.  It is twice the thick as the FE-230 (in the “bulge” where the batteries go), and that simply was too big for me.

Overall, I give the FE-230 good marks.  The interface is slick and intuitive, it takes pictures quickly, and you can’t beat the size.

Want it? Visit the Olympus FE-230 page and add it to your want list!

Take your want list with you!

We know how it is - you’ve worked hard compiling the perfect want list, and now you want to show it off.  Well, you’re in luck - now you can post it anywhere with the flippid photo want list!

Checkout my want list at flippid.com

It’s pretty darn cool to have your want list in photo format, bouncing around the screen in dazzling fashion.  You can even click, drag, and throw the pictures around.  I can do it for hours at a time…

Folks can even interact with your want list and recommend stuff to you!

Oh snap! I’ve got a want list

Posted in Development by on the March 14th, 2007

We just released a buncha new features!

Everyone knows that you can name your own price for stuff you want on flippid, but we’ve taken it further and want you to post EVERYTHING you want - whether you’re ready to buy it right now or not. Now you’ll never forget all that stuff you want (like you would anyway).

What makes this soooo cool?  Well, you can have “friends” on flippid - and you’ll get to see everything in their want lists too!  It’s actually pretty sweet seeing what your friends are into - and its an easy way to keep up on what should be on your radar.

Don’t forget about your “have list” - you can also tell the world what you’ve got.  Manage your collections or just show off.  Either way, having a have-list shows off your taste.

 More soon…

Infrastructure update coming

Posted in Development by on the March 6th, 2007

I know we’ve been pretty quiet over here, but we’re on the heals of a big infrastructure update.  We’re pimping out our server room with high-tech gizmos and gadgets that are going to do all sorts of stuff.  Some of that stuff will make flippid run like a champ!

Getting flippid on your site

Posted in by on the January 2nd, 2007

One of the cooler things you can do with flippid is adding flippid stuff to your own site.  Pretty much everybody has their own blog these days - why not let the world know your tastes by adding your want list to your blog?  It’s easy, and all the cool kids are doing it!

Start by logging into your flippid account, then scroll all the way down to the bottom of the site and click on the link “Add flippid to your site“.  Then choose what you want to show on your site (your want list, BuyOffs in different tags groups, stuff you’re selling) and copy and paste the code into your site.  It’s just that easy.

Now your fans around the world will know just what you want.  Who knows, maybe they’ll even buy it for you…
